The radiation room.

An insulated, closed small space with Jay and Bhakti enduring small amounts of radiation from blacklights and playing dueling drumsets for three straight hours. The drumming can be heard loudly in the main space as the sound travels through the air duct and reflects off of the diorama creating an area of surround sound.

The only entrance to the radiation room was a crawlspace through Scott Murray ’s wardrobe.

The Santa Clause Piggy toy makes a growling sound that loops endlessly. Its’ legs are kicking which makes the Hi-Hat cymbal it’s sitting on clash together creating a fast tempo. Also, because its’ tail is tied to the cymbal stand, and its’ two rear legs don’t kick in unison, the pig slowly “walks” around the circumference of the Hi-Hat cymbal. There is also the loud sound of a fan which is attempting to inflate the Bounce House. Although, it is bound and constricted by a 50 foot extension cord so it can’t fully inflate.

A very loud sculpture. Exposed wire from a cut microphone cord is being batted by a fan creating a loud, fast tapping sound from the amp. This causes the snare drum to vibrate and pop in sync with the fan. 2008

Vault Rooftop

Vault is an art show that happened in Miami 2007. It was organized by the group of artists featured in the show who were Nicolas Lobo, Tom Scicluna, Daniel Newman, Alyse Emdur, and Jay Hines. Vault Rooftop is the name of the sculpture Jay built for this show.

On the roof.

A large room built from 180 feet of plastic tarp, 2×4’s and concrete in buckets. There was no way for a viewer to get on the roof, and from the street level one could see no more than a small section of the sculpture. Although, sound being made from inside of it could be heard for a few city blocks away.

Xiang Xiang

A tribute to the life and death of Xiang Xiang the giant panda by Jay Hines, Ali Prosch, and Aiden Dillard at Ps14, a bar in Miami, in 2007. We laid a king size mattress down next to the pool table so that we could watch the billiards game, and the live band playing. Then we played our own song.
